Hawker Sea Hawk jet in US collections ?

Sadly, with no any US registrations…

XE390 before coming to North America.

When I used Google to try and find where XE390 was now I did find some history. In 1961 it was at Lee painted as an Admiral’s Barge. In 1965 it is shown in a photo at Hurn in the all-black scheme with the FRU. It is reported as retiring from the FRU at Hurn in February 1969 and was the last Seahawk employed there.

I’ve only ever heard of these 2 Sea-Hawks in North America. Your pic. of XE-390 Barrie ties in with the pics. of her on the “Thunder and Lightnings ” Web-site, showing her sitting in a snow covered field next to a Railroad set-up somewhere in Canada/USA. In same condition,(heavily stripped of spares.)

So she could still be in that area of Winnipeg.

I just wondered why someone would pay to get a heavily stripped Sea- Hawk, mlnus wings across the pond from UK to Manitoba, back in 1984 and leave it abandoned, when better Sea- Hawks were around. Would be interesting to know what has become of her. Even left outside till now, a lot is recoverable to make a display piece.

XE-390 looks like she was also a FRADU Aircraft in 1960’s then moved on to RAF Halton, UK and subsequent sale later. She would have been at Halton same time as WV-903 / 908 / 911/ XE-339.

So thanks Barrie for putting another piece of XE-390’s jigsaw puzzle in place.

Just to add-on to New Forests post, can any Canadian Forumites throw any more light on XE-390’s fate from 1984 till now?

And UK forumites any more history from RAF Halton( Circa 1970’s ) to being shipped to Canada ?

Half way down the Thunder and Lightnings list is an FB5, originally WM994 and later G-SEAH and N994WM, apparently now in Minnesota and up for sale. Or at least it was in 2004 – someone will soon be along with an update, I’m sure.

Wow… I am shocked I missed that! I wonder what has happened to her…

Seahawk XE390

I took this photo of this Seahawk passing through Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on 14 November 1984. It came from England on a container ship and went on a train, according to a newspaper clipping, to a Bernie Vajdl in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Does anyone know what happened to it.

Isn’t that Gannet currently under a refurbishment/servicing to re-fly?

And how could I forget that thread, pity the photos have disappeared, well remembered. 🙂

I understand since being seen on the Freeway in 2005 she has disappeared.

I’d be surprised if she was scarped considering effort in transporting her in one piece.

As this belonged to Amjet (the Museum?) I think it has a new owner, somewhere.

Who knows any examples of the existence of Hawker Sea Hawk jet fighters in USA – in museums or in private collections ?
Any images are welcome, and any information about US Sea Hawks registrations.

There is a comprehensive list of all known surviving Hawker Sea Hawks at the excellent Thunder & Lightnings website http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/seahawk/survivors.html

None appear to exist in the USA, and I’ve certainly never heard of any on the US register.

Out of curiosity, what is your interest in the aircraft, and in particular, to survivors in the USA?
