Hi;
The next book in this series announced by Haynes will be a Lancaster manual…I know this coz I’m an aviation book buyer!

I got a copy for my birthday yesterday.
I thought it was very well done for the general reader. Its not an in depth history of the Spitfire, or a manual on how to repair one, but it does give a very good insight into the history of the aircraft, and restoring, owning and operating the type.
Well worth putting on the Christmas list!

How about FN and BP turrets?

This is very true. Haynes still have a number of car types they don’t cover yet, and rather frustratingly my MGF is one of them! This was built in huge numbers, has pretty basic systems, and is prime for long aftermarket home maintenance. I’ll just have to make do with the Mk1 human brain for now to figure things out!
😀
I think i heard somewhere that Haynes’ ethos is now that most cars are beyond the realms of DIY maintenance (certainly my 407 is serviced by plugging it into a pc) so they had to diversify to stay in business, hence manuals on washing machines, plumbing, woman, man….. and now Spitfire. 😮

Is it “Tongue in cheek?” (presented as if you really own a Spitfire) or more of a general reference?
I only ask after seeing a Haynes manual on sex among all the other manuals at a stall at an English vintage car show.
I didn’t know Haynes had a sense of humour.
Most of their books seem pretty dry…unless you’re really into servicing a Saxo or Fiesta.

tongue in cheek!
Yes a bit tongue in cheek , but not a workshop manual in the sence of the word. Intresting facts & the pictures are good.

I had pre ordered mine from Amazon Uk and I got my copy two weeks ago. That included traveling thru the slow Canadian postal service!
Excellent book however.

My copy arrived today. A first look suggests a good read with numerous photographs. Put it on your Christmas list!
That’s good news – my neighbour ordered one for her boyfriend’s Christmas from Amazon and was given a delivery date of 3rd January!
I’ll tell her to get it from somebody else.

Got yours yet ?
The book is launched next sunday at Duxford if you are there I might see some of you in the Aviation Bookshop tent 😀
Anyone else got theirs yet ? Outstanding i say… nice one Fluffy.
Thought it would just be a slightly expanded re-pop of the old RAFM AP type manual, but it is in fact all new and highly recommended.
Now if we all buy enough, maybe Haynes will be encouraged to do more, a Lancaster one perhaps ? 😀

Fluffy – I can’t find it on Amazon either
Here is the link and Waterstones
It is somewhat disconcerting to see, on the Amazon page, that people who bought items like the manual also bought – wait for it –
Robin’s Nest – series 1
Bless This House – the 5th series
Man about the House again the complete 5th series
and
Love Thy Neighbour (and the 5th series again)
DVD’s!!
I’d be intrigued to discover the link between those, somewhat aged and decidedly “uncool” programmes, & the Supermarine Spitfire.
Ho hum
