He 111 1H+EN KG26 downing 9 Feb 1940

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit more about this aircraft which made a near perfect wheels down landing (I am not sure of the exact location but I think North Berwick) and was towed to Turnhouse eventually and flown from there. If it was towed from North Berwick I am very interested in what route it took through Edinburgh. There is a photo of it being towed (location not known) in the Osprey book He 111 Kampfgeschwader in the West. ANy help or pointers much appreciated.
Thanks

DCW and Tangmere1940 – thank you both for the responses. I will have to get hold of a copy of Nigel Parker’s book. By odd coincidence I went into town this afternoon and bought the latest copy of Aeroplane and near the back in the questions and answers section is a piece about this very aircraft plus a photo.

I will have a good few photographs of this in my archive, but many will be in Nigel Parker’s book referred to above.

If I get time later I will try to dig out the images I have and will scan and post.

This aircraft is of local interest to me, since it was later based at Duxford as AW177 with AFDU.
There’s a lot of information in the recenty published ‘Luftwaffe Crash Archive’ by Nigel Parker- highly recommended but no details of its journey through Edinburgh.
