I have access to copies of two RAE reports on the FDLB 131 turret as fitted to the Dornier 217 if its any use.

Hi Jeff,

Yes those are the parts, I didn’t see the turret come out but having spoken to my brother he said it came out in the same area as the tail wheel, so it makes sense it would be the rear turret and your link certianly matches the remains we have. We have cleaned up one large lump and preparing some of the other turret sections now, we hope to have the display ready for March when the museum reopens. Will also post/e-mail a few photos of bits as they are cleaned up over the coming months.

Dan/Kevin

I assume you’re thinking of the parts we recovered a couple of months back – it’s the rear turret. There are a couple of photos showing it here:

Great link Jeff, lovely detailed pics. In the background of the canon magazine loading shot there appear to be several sets of boxing gloves against a crate. Was this the last line of defence? BTW your labels had a trip to Dorking but you have just reminded me they are still in the car.

Images are difficult to find. Aunt Philippa brought back a big lump of armour from the dig which appears to have a ‘window’ and pivot. I’m thinking it is from the manned B Stand but I can only find pics of similar on Ju188s. I’ll post a pic when the light is better.

Gives an idea, there are various different turret types fitted to these positions

There may be a reproduction of the maintenance manual floating around.

Hi Brian,

No I haven’t seen this, would you mind scanning and e-mailing to me when you get a chance and have recovered from Speyer!

Dan have you seen page 37/38 and 164 of the He177,277,274 book by Griehl and Dressel – a couple of photos and a schematic. The 164 image is quite detailed.
