Heads up Alex Henshaw programme Sunday 9th Sept.

There is a programme/documentary about Alex Henshaw called “The Extraordinary Mr Spitfire” on ITV at 18.00hrs Sunday 9/9/07 (runs 25mins).

Don’t know if this is just on Central ITV or is on other regions as well.

Roger Smith.

Alex Henshaw documentary

No plans for a DVD at the moment. The problem is that the programme includes quite a lot of archive, and due to costs we only got this licenced for TV. It would be quite expensive to clear this material for the home market too. But who knows? If enough people want to see this we could extend it even further and there is plenty of stuff we could have used but didn’t have time for.

Welcome to the Forum Chalkhill-Blue and congratulations on your documentary. How nice to know that the programme was made by someone who knew and admired him.

Any plans to release it on video/DVD?

Alex Henshaw documentary

I was the director of “The Extraordinary Mr Spitfire” which aired on ITV yesterday (Sunday). You may like to know that a one-hour version will be shown on The History Channel at 8pm next Saturday (Sept 15) and repeated the following day at 10am. Given the time constraints it was difficult to cram everything into the the ITV version – you should find that the longer programme deals more comprehensively with his achievements. I met him several times and he was one of my heroes, so I was very pleased when we got the commission to make this biography.
Someone asked if a video of Alex’s display was commercially available. It’s included in a film called Ferry Pilot and this is available on DVD from the shop at the RAF Museum, Hendon, and probably elsewhere too.

Alex Henshaw tribute programme.

Have just seen it twice over to savour what was a short but, in my opinion, brilliant programme, where so many qualities shone through that ‘maketh the man’. Could we have a longer version on DVD please?
Does anybody know if a copy of Alex’s legendry Spitfire display is available to see these days, outside the IWM’s film archive?
Well done Alex.

You lucky midlanders! It isn’t on ITV South or London – and those are all the ITV regional stations that I can get. I have just switched the TV on and there is a programme about stately homes! C’est la vie!

If it is the same programme, some footage was shot at Breighton a couple of months ago with the Mew Gull and Arrow Active II.
