Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust (ABCT) will be launched today (PM) at the RAF Museum Hendon. It’s aims (lifted from the Charity Commission’s website) are:
1. TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE HISTORY OF BRITISH AIRFIELDS AND IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY: 1.1 THE ESTABLISHMENT AND SUPPORT OF MUSEUMS AND INTERPRETATION CENTRES; 1.2 THE PRESERVATION OF THE HISTORICAL DETAILS AND RECORDS OF AIRFIELDS; 1.3 THE ERECTION OF MEMORIALS AT SITES OF NATIONAL AND HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE; AND 1.4 TO PROMOTE RESEARCH FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT. 2. TO FURTHER SUCH OTHER EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE OBJECTS AS THE TRUSTEES DETERMINE FROM TIME TO TIME.
It’s headed by KENNETH P BANNERMAN.
This is the first charitiable organisation in the UK dedicated to our aerodrome heritrage and I’m sure everyone will want to wish them well.

Thanks for mentioning this – looks like being a useful website with basic data on most airfields already up there. I too wish them well with their aims and objectives.

Hi Phil – Please do let us know more as it happens and, how to contact them.
I still think we need a similar organisation to bring together individuals – something that could “bolt on” to the BAPC and now, maybe to the ABCT as well(?)
Roy.
