i struggle big time on editing my photos i have adobe photo elements 3.0 and theres soooooo many tools i just goes for the auto quick edit

if anybody reading this knows about elements 3.0 or could tell me the best functions to use other than the auto edit it would help alot

In a sense the best way to learn what the different tools do is to fiddle, fiddle, and fiddle some more! Also knowing what actually makes a photo good is essential, so spend time looking at shots on A.Net and J.Net and take note of how sharp they are, how the shots are composed, i.e. Where and how the aircraft sits in the frame, how the colours look, etc. Start training your eye to recognise the qualities that make a good photo good and a not so good photo… Well… Not so good!

Having said that, I had quite a lot of help from several kind people on these forums both in my early stages of shooting and again when I entered the world of the DSLR, which was of great benefit. My laptop (which had Elements 3 installed) went bang a few weeks ago, but hopefully I’ll be getting a new one tomorrow so I should be back online and editing again properly soon. If you’d like a few pointers on where to start I’d be more than happy to run through some basic techniques with you at some point. Alternatively if you have Spalds on MSN, ask him. He knows PS better than I do these days!

I cropped that at 4×3 Paul, so I could include the top section of the left engine.

I gathered that was the case, but the top of the engine makes the composition somewhat unbalanced to my eyes. Generally I find all of an engine works, no engine works, but part of an engine generally doesn’t. 🙂

To improve: Try cropping at 3×2 / 4×3 and reducing the image size to 1024 or less!

EDIT: I liked your British Airways Airbus angle so much, I decided to do a small re-edit.

That’s the kind of shot where a 3:2.6 aspect ratio to get rid of the engine would work well!
