Hi all,
Last night i was invited by both Wannabe Pilot (Dan) and Mark L (Mark) if i wanted to attend a day at LHR with them today – and seeing as i had no other plans, i accepted. ๐
I met up with Dan at around 11:15 this morning at Hatton cross, i would have been there slightly earlier but got stuck in traffic by some road-works.
From there we drove to meet Mark – and we headed a spot alongside the holding point for 27L take-offs. Heat Haze seemed to be a small factor today, but i think we all managed to pull a few nice ones out of the hat?
We moved over to 27R (Landing) around 1ish and the weather started to play up a little – so much cloud – heavy ass clouds! Luckily it didnt rain – but the darkness did however make for some very awkward photography.
Anyhow – heres a selection from the day (Sorry to those of you on dial-up).
Enjoy! ๐

So as you can see from from the first few shots – lighting today wasn’t great.

Overflight traffic was very busy today – with a plane at high Alt. coming over more or less every 5 minutes. This one being a Delta 767-300.

At a busy moment – the heat haze is very much seen in this shot!

It does look very warm out on that tarmac. (N776AN)

This little fella popped over the airport about 12ish. (G-BWVH)

I advise you to take something to stand on โ 30% of my holding point shots had fence in the corners of them
Unless you are taller than 6ft in which case you can see over the fence with ease (unlike these two) ๐

Hiya all,
Let me first start off by thanking you all for the comments โ greatly appreciated. โ Im in the stages of editing some more pictures now which I hope to have on the forum by the end of the night. ๐
Skylad: Iโm using a Canon 300D with a Sigma 50-500mm lens whacked on the end of it โ though really by looking at these shots, you wouldnโt think so. ๐ Me and the bad weather donโt get on.
Mark โ Yes I see what you mean about the date. Lol .
Deano โ Yeah itโs a good spot where Mark told us to go โ very much worth trying out, but the heat haze gets very bad at times there, with the aircraft holding in the same area the heat builds up rapidly. The chain link fence โ if your like me with some fat arse lens โ will be a problem, I advise you to take something to stand on โ 30% of my holding point shots had fence in the corners of themโฆ. If you have the smaller digital camera like the other guys do, then youโll be fineโฆ as you can get the lenses through the fence gaps with ease.

ah ok thanks Mark, I’ve never given it a try for fear of being arrested ๐
And a certain Mr Lewis was nearly arrested last week ๐

Deano, its quite easy to shoot through the chainlink, the holes are wide enough to get decent shots through.

Great shots Andrew, but how did you get the airside shots without actually being airside? I thought the chainlink fence would stop any decent photos

Nice meeting up with you again Andy. Sadly shortly after you left we got the rain and some even worse lighting conditions, however after almost throwing in the towl we were rewarded with some lovely light from about 1700. I’ll try and get mine up shortly, on a different thread so bmistar wont moan at me ๐

I think these are some of your best photos so far Andy. Well done !!! ๐
Your going to have to show me some of those spots when next I’m down? ๐ฎ

Nice pics – heat haze looked to be a problem for the ground shots though!
