Heathrow- Peoples help please wanted

Im sorry to have to go on about spotting at Heathrow again but this is kinda desperate. I have planned to go tomorrow with my cousin to spot for the day (he is coming down from Scotland) but have noticed that over the past few days the wind direction means that the planes will be on RWY 09 (i think). I have checked the TAFS and METARS on the metoffice website and it shows the same for tomorrow. Is there anywhere at all to go if the planes are either landing or taking-off in the 09 direction? Bearing in mind the only transport that we will be able to use are buses or trains. If there is anywhere could you please let me know any information you have as soon as possible.

Thanks a lot

I can answer that one…. No. They are low here too. I went to that very spot that my brother has marked on the picture, and they are very low here too, I would say a little lower than Myrtle av.

Ok thanks a lot. Just one final little question. It looks as if the threshold of the runway is atleast twice as far away from the spot that you mentioned than myrtle avenue. Does this make much difference to the altitude of the aircraft?

Thanks a lot guys for your fast responses, you don’t know how much I really needed to know.

No worries. I haven’t been to this spot since May, and it was OK then, T5 work was on the other side of the fence.

The only thing I can suggest that will work is to get a bus that goes the entire lenth of the perimeter road, and when you see a decent spot get of the bus and go and stand in it.

Try the place where I said you may be lucky, but like I said i havent been there since May, so work may have hampered things a little.

You’ll know where the spot is when you see it as there is usually alot of cars parked on the pavement. Though do watch out, as this is a very very busy road with fast moving traffic.

Hope all goes well, sorry i havent been much help to you.

That place ain’t blocked by construction. It is ONLY used for landings so you will see the planes on final approach.

There is one snag… it is quite hard to reach without a car, but it is possible. You can take the free bus (forgot the number, 190?) to the BA head office. From there you will have to walk to the spot.

If you look at A330crazy’s pic you can see a large grey building in the top of the photo, roughly in the middle. If I am not mistaken this is the BA buidling (not sure, I haven’t been there for a fwe months). From here you will have to walk. It will be at least half an hour!

And so is this place not blocked off from construction to terminal 5? Sorry for being a bit rushed, I will have calmed down hopefully by tomorrow, it is just that we have been planning this for ages and I’m in a bit of a rush so as to not make my cousins trip down here a complete waste of time. Thanks for you patience with me

Marked in the red circle is the place I first mentioned.

Right at the opposite end of the airport to Hatton cross, there is a road that runs parralel with the perimeter road…. this is about the only spot worth going to when they are landing in the 09 direction…. theres the Esso garage too.
