Heathrow Photography

Hi, I have a couple of questions about London Heathrow – I’m planning to go there in the next couple of days in the sunny weather to take some pictures.

1) is it correct that usually runway 9 is used morning and early afternoon, then it changes to runway 27?

2) whats the best way to get to the field at the end of 9L, from one of the terminals? is it accessible on foot ?

thanks.

No idea really, depends what the small print says in the T&C I suppose, and whether you were blocking any roadways or access points where you were standing or not? Worth a shot I suppose…

Hi, I was at LHR the other evening and they were landing on 09L.

For getting some hopefully decent photos, I just wondered if anyone has ever considered parking the the “Business” car parks that run along the perimiter fence up the side of 09L?

Can you park there? And if so, stay all day with your car and get some great shots…….you need to be a bit flush with the parking but £21.95 does not seem to bad for 24 hours, if they let you do it?

No. The usual runways are 27, 09s only get used about 25% of the year. 09s operated on a fixed schedule, 99% of the time 09L for landing, 09R for departure. 27s do NOT operate on a fixed schedule, and they alternate not only every week, but also every day at 1500 local.

The best bus to get out of the airport is the 285 from the central bus station. This takes you directly to Hatton Cross, for 27 arrivals (for free). If 09s are in use it will take you to the Bath Road (for free) where you will have to change buses, and pay for another one to take you a mile or two down the road towards the 09L approach field.

There are various buses that do both services, but for 09s the 285 is best, and I think its the 82 to Longford you want after the Bath Road.

Hope this helps.

Try www.spotterswiki.com – very helpful I find but not sure what it’s got on LHR.

Nope for both, you cant exit heathrow on foot.

And the runway usage depends upon the wind, however i think its 27L (DEPS) in the morning and at 1500Z it changes to 27R. ? IF ON 27s

09R for DEPS and 09L for ARRS IF ON 09s
