Saw an odd sight at Heathrow yesterday… a guy with what looked like a TV camera on a tripod in the field at Myrtle Ave.. the camera pointing to above the end house at Myrtle…perfectly angled for filming something landing 27L…. except it was on 09 yesterday and departing aircraft on 09R were in the fog before clearing the perimeter fence!!!:eek::confused::confused:

They must have switched at some point today because they were back on the 09s this evening.

Maybe, but I can only report what I saw at the time of passing, and that was the Westerlies were active between those times I stated.

Of course it depends on which direction the wind is blowing at the time – here’s a website with current runway in use information…
http://www.plane-mad.com/airport-weather/united-kingdom/london-heathrow-lhr-egll.html
The TAF wind info on the right of the page is also useful for guessing which runway might be in use during the rest of the day – the wind element from 20th 07:00 to the 21st 12:00 is 120 degrees 5 knots. It’s more useful in strong wind conditions though, as variations in light wind directions aren’t accounted for…

Yup, definitely 27L on thursday morning… i MUCH prefer 09’s, think the hill at the T5 approach road is by a mile heathrows top shooting spot for landers.

Not today they haven’t, I went to the National Archives in Kew earlier and they were using 27L when I went past it at about 9am and 27R when I came home about 4:45pm
They were on Easterlies on Tues/Wed as I was flying into LGW all week and we were on Easterlies there with the wind most definitely East. This changed from Thurs onwards.

If I’m not mistaken, they have been on the 09s for much of the week.
