If anyone has any advice as to good viewing locations around Heathrow I’d like to hear them.
We took a trip to the Heathrow Academy on Sunday but it’s a poor spot really. It doesn’t help having to look through two layers of glass! I believe they’re going to build an outdoor viewing area but even so it won’t be great.
All advice greatfully recieved.

Heard on another forum that the visitor centre at Heathrow (the one on the northern perimeter road) is now closed as well, is this true? Was hoping to make a trip over there the weekend after this one.

You can park in Myrtle Ave, but it can be tight parking as it is all residential. I would recommend myrtle ave as it is very good especally for photography.
As for your comment “Will it be busy on thursday afternoon” of course it will, its heathrow, the 3rd busiest airport in the world. lol
Hope you have a gd time, im sure you will

I strongly advise you not to attempt to park up on the main road! 😮
Leave your car in the Hatton Cross Tube Station car park and walk a few hundred yards up the road to Myrtle Avenue instead.
That way you won’t get ticketed and/or clamped…… 😎
Thanks – I had n’t considered it is probably all residents parking and double yellows everywhere:rolleyes:

…..I know to avoid local residents driveways etc. and will probably park up on the main road. Any other tips?…

Noob question about Myrtle Avenue
Hi,
I have a morning meeting at the Radisson next week, so thought I could do my first bit of serious spotting in the afternoon. Surfing around it seems that Myrtle Avenue is a good spot. I even found the BAA guide to runway ops and if they are on Westerly’s, it is 27L until 3pm, which is perfect.
What can I expect at Myrtle Avenue on a Thursday afternoon? Will it be busy? I know to avoid local residents driveways etc. and will probably park up on the main road. Any other tips?
Thanks:)

I actually think heathrow is rather good for spotting/photographing,the spots are very good, the buses around the airport are excellent & free!,what i did when i was over at heathrow, was take the 285 bus around to hatton cross, cross the road and walk the bit down to myrtle avenue, once 3pm came,i walked back to hatton cross and got the 285 back around the 27R,there’s a bus stop right under the approach,i crossed the road, and went to the bus stop on that side of the road,i got some excellent angles & stayed dry, even though it bucketed down,no i had no experience of travelling around heathrow & i have to say it was very very easy:

On a recent trip with A330Crazy, aircraft were arriving on 9L all day long, so we parked on a pavement, just along from terminal 5. We were not the only ones there and the police did not hassle us. However, it’s a bit of a pain getting there without a car.

for spotting only the visitor centre is OK if they are landing 27R. I’d go to Hatton Cross as previously mentioned over near 27L. For photos goto Mrytle Ave for 27L arrivals, for 27R arrivals its hard as all the places are shut now.

Easiest is to get of at tube station Hatton Cross. There you will be in the approach. Walk north or southeast depending on the runway in use.

Anyone know if the outdoor viewing area has been built yet? Tempted to make a visit soon, although have to get a taxi from the terminal to it so bit of a pain by public transport

This area does not get mentioned often, but if travelling by car, what about the Business Traveller Car Park areas? It runs along parallel 27R/10L with just one fence to look through. On the bad side its straight into the sun for daytime photos…..oh and i better mention the £18.00 a day parking fee.
