Hello all,
Today, myself and Andy (A330Crazy) made a trip up to Heathrow Airport. We had planned to go up for a while, but various problems prevented it from happening. Anyway, today was the day and the weather seemed to be on our side for the entire day!
I arrived and met up with Andy at the usual Hatton Cross Tube Station at about 11.15am and we spent half the day watching departures from 27R and then the other half back at Hatton Cross and Myrtle Avenue watching arriving traffic on 27L. For the whole of the day, the aircraft used the same runways for departures and arrivals.
Was an exciting day (for me especially). Although we saw two United 747s, a United 777 in new colours, an Ethiad A330, British Midland A319 (twice), East African 767 etc, my highlight of the day was seeing both Thai Airways departures/arrivals for Bangkok. We saw HS-TGB (the one I returned on 3 weeks ago) and also HS-TGT. Unfortunately, no sign of any Star Alliance 747s or Royal Barges.
We started to head home at about 6.15pm, after watching the Thai 747 come in. Was a great day, but a shame that nobody else was there to join us.
Here’s a few photos from the day. I took 104 photographs, but have chosen a rather random 14 to show to you. They are all a bit dodgy – the ones from 27R look like they are on a grass runway because little me couldn’t see over the fence, so I had to go under it! Some are also dark, not central etc!
Anyway, great day and thanks Andy for coming along. ๐
Virgin Atlantic 747-400 (G-VFAB) departing runway 27R
United Airlines 747-400
British Airways A319 and Air Canada A340-300
Three Star Alliance aircraft – Air Canada A340, British Midland A320, Thai 747
HS-TGB of Thai Airways – the 747 I flew only 3 weeks ago!
Air India 747-400. The third 747 we saw in just a couple of hours!
The new Ethiad Airways Airbus A330
Our new friend ‘Henry Horse’ who is also a keen spotter
Singapore Airlines 747-400
Sinagpore Airlines 747-400 landing on 27L
All Nippon Airways (ANA) 747-400 in the colourful Pokรฉmon scheme
The nose of a Virgin Atlantic A340-300 on finals for 27L
Henry again with something big approaching in the background
Getting dark as this Thai 747 arrived about 25 minutes early

Nice shots Michael. Like the Virgin nose and Thai ones best. Great shot of the Eithad 330 too (the one i got was a big blur!)
LOL —> Can’t belive you gave the horse a name! :D:p
Thanks for a good day out. ๐
Henry seems quite catchy! ๐ฎ
Thanks very much for storing my models for me as well. I got a note through the door today to say that Mr. Postman tried to deliver a parcel, but nobody was in, so I have now got to wait until Tuesday! Never mind.
And thanks everyone else for the kind comments. ๐

Great stuff Michael, must get myself back to LHR over the summer sometime.
Tell me though… has the horse been signed up to report any signs of suspicious behaviour around the airport ? ๐

Great photos Michael. I especially approve of the one with Star Alliance flavour, containing birds from British Midland, Air Canada and Thai. Very above average.

Superb! Your always moaning about your camera, but you still manage to get some outstanding shots out of it. I especially like the angle on the UA + Thai 744s taxiing.

I’m looking forward to it.
