How come we don’t see any (none?) helicopter cockpit projects? I think helicopters like the Wessex or Sea King would make an excellent project! Talking about Sea Kings, how come so few are preserved? Are they so hard to get a hold off? There seem to be many wrecks about.

Also there seems to be a lot of heli instruments going through eBay at the moment If you were planning a project.

There may be a glut of Lynx 7 airframes coming onto the market soon, as the aircraft approaches its OSD.

Check you pm Mike, I thought about posting it on here.

That would be an interesting little project for someone, Tony. It wouldn’t be very Historic though.
Just having read through the posts in this thread I might add that I have a Sea KIng (not a Seaking) cockpit. It’s lacking instrumentation and a few fittings and also has some minor damage but it’s restorable. The SK has always been a favourite of mine so when it became available I just had to get it.
I had hoped to get it displayable (but not complete), i.e. on a stand and with all the parts I have acquired fitted ready for Fest 2015 but it’s not going to happen. I’ve an unforseen project on the go then Aggie Paggie to get ready in the short time remaining before the event so, maybe next year.
It’s bl**dy big. Hadn’t realised the SK was that large though it’s just the right width for the trailer, thank goodness.
Anon.

Future project?

My assistant found this Bell UH-1H inverted in a scrap metal dump today. This is no way to treat a Huey! rescue mission underway.

Why limit yourself to just the cockpit?

Thanks. It will be even better when we manage to get her into the dedicated building and make her take power. It is just a shame that she is not designed to cope with being outdoors as we’d have loved to take her to ‘fest.
The Facebook Group is:

A useful place to dump photos if nothing else!

As an aside, does anyone know of a source for the black/white striped 2cm diameter warning lights fitted to Wessex cockpit panels as these are two obvious holes in the second panel being restored.

Very nice cockpit Diverscout, and great to see its being used to encourage a younger generation to take an interest in aviation.

Thanks! Do you have a link to the FB page?

A quick exterior shot of her before we brought her back to the UK. I’ve put a few more on a cockpit collectors page I set up on Facebook a while back.

Any pictures you could share?

Reviving an old thread! Our Scout Group now own the Wessex CPT formerly at RAF Aldergrove as a training aid and possible film location. She’s pretty complete, bar a couple of instruments, and made the trip home from Belgium mounted on the back of a large tipper truck – attracting a lot of interest from customs! If there are any more Wessex parts available, though, we’d be very interested in them!
Not long ago we attempted to see if we could have any of the hulks from Weston on loan so that we could look after it, but were turned down fairly promptly. It appears that having someone look after a hulk is worse for it than leaving it to rot in the undergrowth. Still, their planes, their rules – and they have been quite supportive in other respects.
I’m afraid that the CPT won’t be making it to Cockpitfest as it is not really suited to charging through the countryside too often. We’d love to hear from anyone who’d be interested in helping restore and look after her – also those who would be interested in training the Scouts in correct procedure.

ive allready been there, and seen the owner.. some are spares ships, and some are for future projects,if you trawl through this site there was a old thread about my day there, very interesting place,
I certainly got the feeling they were NOT for sale, and many were simply given to them, like the wessex with the union jack on, it came from RAF colerne.
I was enquiring about and asked directly to the museum about the most messed up gutted wessex airframe they had outside, it was a definate no,
however , i did contact a paintball company that had got a danish whirly from there , and he said thus, “we paid a very lot of money well over a grand for a completely gutted wreck for our paintball park, problem was they wouldnt let us take it away, and in the end we had to go in mob handed and virtually take it by force” his words , not mine !.. so dont shoot the messenger Please 😮
So in the end after trying and writing , i gave up, i even got a letter from them stating ,no airframes were up for disposal, at mo,
this was about a year ago, i doubt things have changed much, they might be persauded to sell one of those EH101 ??. modern fangled things they have lots of old airframes of there though, but they wont be cheap.
sorry to put a dampener on weston old chap, other than that, a great museum, with a good dedicated work force, and some cracking exhibits..

Wessex/Whirlwind airframes at Weston museum.
Here are some pics of some airframes I spotted at a flightsim show at Westom Supermare Helicopter Muesum. I never got a chance to speak to the owners as to availability but it looks like some may have been languishing there for a while.
I have more a comprehensive list in picture form so here are the Wessexes and one of the many Whirlwinds out the back.
For the record, that’s 4 different Wessexes.
Also has anybody heard of a company called “Their finest Hour Ltd.” . Are they a charity, are all the proceeds going to RAFBF? The website was a little unclear http://www.theirfinesthour.co.uk/
