I was watching a crazy movie on sky at the weekend called “doomsday” about a virus which infects Scotland leading it to be sealed off from the rest of the world. The director admitted it was a “homage” to Escape from new york, mad max etc. A lot of the movie was filmed in africa, well known for its similarity to Scotland:D and at the end a large transport helicopter meets the heroine and her friends, does anybody know who the manufacturer of the helicopter is, ive never seen it before this movie and I had a look at the SAAF site and it isnt one of theirs

the widgeon now lives at NEAM JB currently awaiting restoration 🙂
Are you sure?
I saw it in late March…it didn’t look like it was going anywhere.:D
Maybe a different aircraft? The N&SAM was very clear about theirs being the film machine.

The same helicopter (marked as both a USAAF and RAF machine, IIRC) was used in “Eye of the Needle”.
It now resides in the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton.

Haven’t seen the film either, but I know a helicopter that appears in the film is registered ZS-HTN which is a Robinson 22 Beta, so obviously this is not the one you are looking for!

Can you put up some screenshots or images?

You should have seen the one in “When eight bells toll” – featuring in quite a sizeable section considering was a Royal Navy (schemed at least) Widgeon… Not one you see too often.

I haven’t seen it, but don’t discount the possibility of it being mythical via CGI. There was one in a recent Quentin Tarrentino (sp?) film.
