And both Air Britain and ” Fleet Air arm Helicopters since 1943″ are excellent value for money….real devotion to aviation history by volunteers that deserves to be rewarded…BUY THE BOOK!!

£44.50 is the non member price, members pay £29.50. Postage and packing is free.

Thank you everyone it seems that is all the codes down now.
Lee Howard, the £75 price was from a seller on Amazon, like I said in my original reply.
I didn’t not check the Air Britain site because I was told it was a member’s only online shop and I’m not a member.

No record of any Wessex carrying codes for Fearless – neither ‘FS’ nor ‘SQ’ (where did that one come from??)
I have had another look, the SQ is not the Fearless deck code it is actually short for Squadron.
Sorry for starting a myth

nor Regent using ‘RE’ (it was ‘RG’).
I must confess RE for Regent came from an earlier edition of Squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm, whuich lists it alongside RG – a typo?

Fleet Air Arm Helicopters since 1943 is only £44.50 from the Air Britain web site.
Indeed it is! I don’t know where youve got £75 from Comet102. And likewise I’m not sure how you’ve ‘ordered’ SoTFAA as it’s been out of print for years. Second hand copy, yes.
Seems that many prefer to consult the internet for free rather than support the organisations and individuals that produce the goods in the first place but whose work is then flagrantly lifted and put onto the internet.

I have looked at ‘Fleet Air Arm Helicopters since 1943’ but it’s around £75 on Amazon, I’ve ordered the 2nd edition of first book mentioned and thanks for the various information, it really is very helpful.

The second edition of that book is now 21 years old, I believe a much updated 3rd edition is in preparation, a must have for anyone interested in British Naval Aviation when it is published, start saving now chaps
We’ll be sitting down to start laying out the beginning of the 800-series squadrons at 1000 tomorrow morning…..!
Also, don’t forget ‘Fleet Air Arm Helicopters since 1943’, also published by Air-Britain and still available. Has all of the information you need, plus much more.
Incidentally, no record of any Wessex carrying codes for Fearless – neither ‘FS’ nor ‘SQ’ (where did that one come from??), nor Regent using ‘RE’ (it was ‘RG’). You’ve missed RFA Resource (‘RS’). Glamorgan was ‘GL’, not ‘GA’.

Thanks DaveF68, list updated.

RFA Regent apparently carried both RE and RG
I don’t think Lion ever was aloocated a deck letter, as she didn’t have a flight deck

Air Britain’s book Squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm has all the tail codes ever allocated.

Thanks Lynx815 I was looking at that book for something else as well, I didn’t know deck codes would be in there as well.

Mainly Wessex’s but Whirlwinds as well if they carried them.

You say “especially” Wessex in you thread title, so are you looking for codes of other types? If so, I noted Wasp XT415 from HMS Danae in June 1968 carrying code 464, but no ship letters.

Thanks Thunderbird167 that website is very helpful and I have now updated the list further.
TonyT, I will do if I can’t get the answers on here, I was told this key forum was the go-to place for historical factual information.
