Hellcat at Old Warden

A couple of weeks ago it was the RAF Jaguar at Old Warden, this time around the Hellcat. There was a time a few years back when the Shuttleworth Collection used to frequently attract many of the Duxford based Warbirds to OW, most used to just display and return back home, but not Hoof Proudfoot. He surprised us all when the Hellcat dropped in for the day, remember this was before the runway extension.

What other warbirds have visited Old Warden?

Septic.

MH434 definitely landed at OW, wearing the AC-S codes, and I believe flown by Neil Williams. “Listen to the crackle of the short stub exhausts” is the clue for the aficionadoes of the LP.

The Wildcat landed at OW too Septic – remember, we were there (liveside I think) so you’ll have pics if you look! 😀

In the 70’s I’m sure MH434 touched down at OW.

It sure did Septic. I have a picture of it in a book somewhere parked next to AR501.

Hoof Proudfoot also landed TFC’s Hurricane at OW in 1995. You can see the footage on the Aviation Action 1995 “Airshow Review” video that’s now on DVD. 🙂

As much as I love the OW Based machines, I would really love to see a few more of the DX based machines display there as during the mid 90’s, it seems they were frequent vistors!

I would love to have seen Mark Hanna’s display there in 1998 (when that lovely photo by John Dibbs was taken – I believe he landed there btw).

It would be nice to have 434 back there for a display this year with Ray at the controls! 😀

Cheers

Paul

I remember a Millitary Pageant with Black 6, the Bearcat and P47 that sticks in my mind for fantastic displays. I remember Black six being announced as just a few weeks from ‘retirement’ so that should date it…. (1997  )

(edit: although they did not land)

A few years later Stephen Grey took the Wildcat.
