Hellenic Air Force Spitfire Restoration

Dear all
My name is Philippas Georgiou and I’m an aeronautical engineer, Major of the Hellenic (Greek) Air Force.

After reading the Haynes book about the Bf-109G2 Black 6, I got very inspired by the Black 6 team story. I have always been very interested in historic aircrafts restoration but I haven’t been able to get involved into it yet.

Some years ago the Hellenic Air Force decided to restore an Mk IX Spitfire (S/N 10755) to flyable condition. The works have gone to a stop due to economical problems and the airplane is now stripped down and its engine partially disassembled.

Since previous examples have proven that these kinds of jobs require mostly willing and dedication and in order to do whatever I can, to save this piece of aviation history from ending disassembled in a hangar, I’m seeking for any help/advice that could guide me to organize a restart and completion of this restoration.

Since I don’t have any previous experience in such projects, I would like to know about the technical experiences needed, the availability of documentation and the possible donation help we could get or any other information that could be useful.

So if anyone thinks that could give useful advises, especially after own experience, please contact me and help me start this difficult path.

Thanks
Major (HAF) Philippas Georgiou

Hello Major and welcome to the forum. You have certainly come to the right place as there are several members of the forum with first hand experience of Spitfire restoration including members of the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Unfortunately I cannot offer any personal advice, just my best wish’s in your endeavor.
See old thread on the start of the restoration.
