Welcome aboard Kieran. π
Hopefully your main interest lies in one of the aviation themed forums…..I think most of us come here when itβs quiet, or to relax or to let off steam…
…not necessarily in than order! π

Hi Roy, who are you thinking of flying with? The Flight Centre at Halfpenny Green?
It can’t hurt to start genning up on the books, but it largely depends on how much information gets absorbed and how able you are to tackle the (devilishly phrased) CAA exams. Ground helps with that to a degree. Once you’ve done a subject a book called the “PPL Confuser” will help you tackle the questions. If you pop over to the airside part of the Flight Centre, I know they sell copies.
A decent school will support you through your PPL. If not, start worrying! π

I was directed to this forum by a good friend of mine who flys a ‘Chippie’.
He’s a good guy, but, obviously, a poor judge of character.:)
Welcome to the forum Chriszydiamond!

I have never really introduced myself either.
Im way above average interested in ww2 aviation especially. 25 years old..student.
Went to Duxford in 2005..my first time. Absolutely blown away by seeing 7 or 8 Spits flying past me. Going again this year with my father, he’s just like me, very interested indeed.
My field of knowlegde so to speak mostly involves the norwegian fighter squadrons during ww2 and its pilots, but I have also been lecturing junior high school students in Norway about Battle of Britain for a day. I liked that a lot π

Hello moocher and welcome.
Nice to have another engineer on board. π
And if you started on ‘billy-bunters’, what else have you been involved with? And are you involved with anything ‘historic’ now?
Quite a lot of what is now called “historic” I was a member of the Battle of Brittain flight in the 80s working with some of the best guys in the buisiness, guys like Pete (gerbs) Jeffery, Bob Mitchell, Dave Payne, Ian Peart, Steve kingman, Andy Patton the list goes on, a really great bunch of guys to work with and boy can the drink.
I have had a bit of time on the PBY, Bristol Fighter, F4U, F6 & F7F.
Good types and nice to work on.

I see from your post you are a photographer, have you had much luck getting your work published, i suppose you need to be really good to have your work used in the public domain.
I, like a few others on this forum get by with a few published shots. Pick up a copy of the Duxford airshow program on Sunday, and that may help answer your question. π
