Doing a little research on the Eagle pub in Cambridge and have found a handwritten note that “FlyPast ran an article on the ceiling in June 1988”
As FlyPast didn’t exist then that would be a neat trick.
Does anyone have any of the ‘other mags’ from that period and would they be prepared to have a root through them and see if they can find anything?

Ah yes, I remember finding the Eagle by wandering past the end of Benet Street one day!
As a scientist, I wanted to go to see where Watson and Crick did all their serious thinking when they were working out DNA. The ceiling came as a welcome surprise!
Then we turned out and popped across the road to the church to look at the book sale… Turns out the Churchwarden of St Benet’s once upon a time was one Fabian Steadman, the guy credited with inventing change ringing on english church bells…So we had a quick pull on the old strings.
So as a real-ale drinking scientist & aircraft enthusiast who rings church bells it was quite a day! (AND I had my girlfriend with me!)

It was john watts who sadly lost his life in the tornado collision. He was part of plane sailing along with paul warren wilson

Is that the Plane Sailing Paul Warren Wilson mentioned in post #13?
If so, I had no idea that he had passed away; we had a long chat a few years ago when the Cat was part of a Flying Legends display at Cannes airport – a very sad loss if that is the same chap.

Alastair – Are you sure the Pilatus P.2 article is in June 1982? I seem to remember it from early 1983 . The report was written by Paul Warren-Wilson who was sadly lost in a Tornado collision in the Lake District.
The June 1982 issue was the first I ever bought at the age of 12 and I have a very fond recollection of that issue. There is a good article on Mustangs around the world – might have been by Paul Coggan !
I think we are both wrong here . Something tells me it was the year before the Spanish World Cup and I bought it in Edinburgh Airport before flying out on holiday aged 13 – that would make it 1981 and the only colour in the magazine was the cover .
The Mustang article was excellent – there was a piece on the Dominican Republic Mustangs – the last active service Mustangs in the world .

Thats funny , I have a copy of Flypast from June 1982 – there is a Pilatus P2 in Swiss markings on the cover and an article written by one of the owners – the other owner being none other than Mark Hanna.

Flypast October 1986 – contained a list of Spitfire survivors around the world….;)
My copy of that is in the loft, too, I think.
