Im hoping over the next two years to produce a Bomber command documentary. The exact details are still vague but im hoping to feature footage of veterans and of modern day stuff like the bbmf, cwh, hendon etc.
Heres where i need help, whats the best way of getting in contact with Bomber Command veterans? And have any of you on the forum had any experience with this kind of thing, research etc and might be able to offer tips.
best regards steve,
online replies are fine but if anyone prefers to contact offline,

Steve – yes, I’d give East Kirkby a call if I were you. I don’t know whether Mrs Emeny actually works there, or whether she just helps out at peak times, but I’m sure someone at EK will be able to point you in the right direction. Hope the documentary goes well.

Well, I still have two weeks before I have to hand it in. But it’s not our primary task to find him.
His name : GERMAIN, LOUIS, based at Yorkshire. He flew with the RAF, 40-43 in N-Africa and from 44 on missions above Germany and France.
He was a navigator on the Halifax

Geforce.
Was he in the RAF? And can you give a name and where he was based? There’s a couple of things worth trying. Also, how long do you have to do this?

I need to find information on a French Halifax navigator, based in Yorkshire. I tried the RAF-veterans website, but they don’t give information to non-relatives. It’s for my history project.

Steve, another angle might be to include the experiences of the crew members who made it out through the escape network. I guess you’ve visited East Kirkby (you’re quite close to there if I recall), so I suggest you try to spend some time talking to Mrs Emeny in the Escape Museum; her late husband Ron was the last man out through the chain, and I spent an enthralling fifteen minutes talking to her last year. She had some very moving stories to tell, and I felt very priveleged to hear them. I just wish I could have spent longer talking to her.

A useful website is:-
http://www.bomber-command.info/
I had a link for the Bomber Command Assoc. but appears to be down. There are also some squadron assoc. links on the RAF site.

Hi, Steve.
I would think a good place to start would be the Aircrew Association, they might be able to put you in touch with others who could help. Your local branch of the RAFA might be helpful. The RAFA do have a website so if you can finf that address it might be worth pursuing. I think there might be an Air Gunners association too! A list of useful addresses appears about every three months in flypast. Another idea might be to put a letter in your local paper asking any veterans to contact you.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
