Help from Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Is there any chance of finding out what’s happening to the Mosquito at Duxford? This is the latest post from Andy Dawson on the Mossie Page (http://www.mossie.org):

I’ve just heard that TV959 looks to be going to the States after all – does anyone have any idea about the timescale of the move? I for one would like to see her before she heads off across the pond!

Regards
Andy

Hopefully, you or someone else can help.

Cheers,
Neilly

Mosquito to USA…..

Doughnut, I don’t agree with your assertion that we have ‘lost’ aircraft to overseas buyers. I think that the international trade of vintage aircraft is healthy for the warbird community. Would you rather see the Mosquito fail to be properly preserved in the UK due to a lack of funds, or be restored to fly in the USA with the opportunity of being traded back to the UK at a later date?

We warbird enthusiasts have alot to thank the USA for – not least, because their economy generates the wealth which results in the restoration of many aircraft, some of which are traded on the international market for enthusiasts like YOU to enjoy at airshows.

I think that the blinkered attitude of ‘it’s in Britain, so let’s keep it here’ would result in stagnation in the warbird market. Imagine if all countries operated like that – watching the same aircraft (with one or two restorations every year) year in / year out – everyone would lose. Finally who are the ‘we’ that you write of? Have you offered to help Stephen Grey in the restoration of the Mosquito?……

I have still not had any information from anyone about the timescale for the move of TV959. I’m hoping to get to see her in a little over a weeks time (yay for holidays!), but would make heroic efforts to see her sooner if she is likely to be gone by the time I make it.

I’ve tried e-mailing TFC with no response as yet.

Does anyone know who I can contact to try and find out what is going on?

Hi Ashley,

A bit perplexing, to say the least. I’m hoping for a large lotto win, this Saturday!:p

I wonder if I’d have enough cash for both the Mossie & the Beau?

I’m hard at work on my own No.1 toy. 4 days off work, No missus (gone away for week-end) GP motor racing, England-Scotland Rugby & playing model aeroplanes. I think I just went to Heaven!!:D

TTFN,

Hi Neilly…unfortunately I am as in the dark as the rest of us at the moment…I have been over to Hanger 2 a couple of times this past couple of weeks to see what info I could find but nothing…I’ll try again today…

I would actually be rather surprised if she does go to the States, unless it’s just for a rebuild (although that wouldn’t really make sense given the knowledge in this country e.g. De Havilland Support, Skysport etc) From whispers into my ear, I gather the Fighter Collection were viewing her as a viable project, so not quite sure why they would suddenly decide to sell her on…

That said, I am somewhat perplexed as to why she was suddenly pulled out of the north side hanger and moved to Hanger 2…

Hi Doughnut,

It originated on this forum. But if you go to :
http://www.mossie.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=842&t=842

on the Mossie Page there’s a little more info.

If the above is true it is extremely sad. Do you know where this rumour started? Until we know the source of the information let not get over excited. Who is the registered owner TFC or IWM?

I believe that we have lost to many valuable aircraft to overseas buyers in the past and must be prepared to retain this aircraft for preservation within the UK.
