Hello everyone,
I did post this sometime ago but didn’t have any response. So, I thought I would try again on the off chance that someone might come up trumps.
Anyway, I’m looking for a couple of photos and wondered if anyone out there might be to help???
The first is of Spitfire Mk 14. RM617, flying with 91 (Nigeria) Squadron RAF, based at West Malling, Kent. This aircraft was lost in a crash on June 25, 1944 killing the young Australian pilot.
The second is a photo of Gloster Meteor NF Mk 14 WS727, from 153 Squadron, which crashed on 09 Jan 1956, with the loss of both crew. This aircraft was also flying from West Malling. I have copies of photos taken at the crash site of this aircraft, but I’ve not been able to find any photos of this aircraft prior to the crash.
Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Old Towzer.

Good afternoon mothminor.
Many thanks for your reply, it was good of you to take the time, and appreciated.
Yes, I have a copy of the Osprey book on 91 Squadron. The book is right, very few photos seem to exist of their Mk14s. I was involved in a dig on RM617, many years ago and would very much like a photo to go with the remains.
It’s the same reason with the meteor. Hand dug it with some friend’s way back in the late 70s, early 80s.
Anyway, thanks again.

I did have a look through my books when you first posted this request Old Towzer. Had a second look but still no joy other than a colour plate of RM617 in the Osprey book on No.91 Squadron. It does mention that very few photos of their Mk XIVs have come to light.
Nothing on the Meteor either.
