Seems very odd that a Form F.700 is allocated to a Hampden and then changed to a Spitfire…..with a Fairey Battle serial number!! Something not quite right here.

Can you post some scans? Front cover and inside pages?

The form did belong to Hampden L4044 230 squadron all the info seems to be deleted and changed to Spitfire info unless as i now assume was done by an apprentice mechanic for practice on filling out the sheets?

Are you sure of the serial number? If so, not Spitfire.

The false ‘700’ is not rare. These were used commonly in RAF aircraft engineering trade training circles, certainly in the 1950s and, I suspect, earlier.

I remember that ‘my’ fictional aircraft was a Mosquito (forget which Mark) and had been ‘serviced’ by fictional mechanics, fitters, and oversigned by NCOs whose names were taken from those of popular jazz musicians of the day, eg: LAC D.Ellington, Flt/Sgt S. Getz, etc.:D

Thanks for your serious reply Dave .Considering where this came from i very much doubt the deceased ex-raf service man went into making copies of combat reports!!!.Not everything out there should be jumped on as a forgery this was never sold as a forgery and is real and is as stated belonging origionally to the Hampden and not a spitfire.

I’ve got a book entitled “The war in the air: 1939 – 1945” and there are several different accounts of maintainence forms being switched due to different reasons, so i wouldn’t worry about its authenticity.
