Help Needed – Boxed WingTip lights dated APR 1943

I used to run an aviation museum with my father who passed. We had a stockpile of wing tip lights which were sold in the aviation shop there c2004 for around £50 at the time. These I know are wingtip lights I believe to be for a hurricane(?). They are in original boxes stamped with a date also on the box.

I have attached photos showing this. They were made in Canada, the box contains one lamp, (Type A PORT) with ref no. 5c/492. There is a time stamp of Apr 7 1943 depicted on the box. I have only recently found these when cleaning out the loft.

Could anyone shed any light on what aircraft these are from? Would anyone know where I could also sell these and what sort of price this would be worth today?

Kind Regards,

Got a new set for my Auster. And my old 1944-built MK V Auster had them too. 🙂

I thought I had seen these on the early Spit in Hendon, Must of been wrong Bruce, I have been known to be wrong as the wife points out every time I open my mouth!

AIR MINISTRY
Yes I have seen a number around over the years but at least they are genuine articles and not later items being put on the Interweb as WWII

These have turned up in large numbers at aerojumbles in fairly recent years. N.O.S., boxed, originating in Canada, just like these. I suspect most UK Tiger, Chipmunk, etc operators have at least one spare pair on a shelf by now.

Speedbird, firstly sorry your father passed away.

I have seen them for sale at 35 quid and 70 a pair, have you any STARBOARD ones? I have a couple of ports and would like to match them up with greens.
Also used on the Wellington, Defiant, Spitfire etc. Spitfire for eBay !
At least you know they are WWII, good luck

They fit loads of things – Mosquito, Hurricane, Dove, Chipmunk, Vampire and so on, and so on.

I struggle to get £25 each for them to be honest.
