Dear members, help would be appreciated.
On may 1st 1943 Halifax JB-803 KN-G crashlanded in my hometown of Muiden, The Netherlands. We have errected a small, temporary memorial for the crew. Next year the permanent monument will be errected.
None of the crew survived. 5 crewman decided to jump to safety, but all fell in the Ijsselmeer and drowned. 1 of the crewmembers that jumped was officially never found and is missing to this day. However through extensive research we probably found him. A request to the identification team of the Dutch army has been sent to research this. An unknown RAF airman was found on the day of the crash closeby, alive but unconscious and died 13 days later without waking up. He was buried in Amsterdam a nameless grave with only the date of death.
2 crewmen were found dead in the wreckage and buried the same day. The other 4 washed ashore in the following days.
What we are looking for at this point is crewphoto’s, information, and (if any) living relatives of these heroes!
We have 2 photo’s of the 2 Canadian crewmembers.
If you can help us, please do so!
These are the names of the crew:
Sergeant (Flt. Engr.) Ian Douglas Crawford, RAF, 634710
Sergeant (Nav./Air Bomber) Leon Hannam, RAF, 1383305
Flying Officer (Nav.) Arthur Edward Parsons, RCAF, J/11636
Flight Sergeant (Air Gnr.) Thomas Deuel Scarff, RCAF, R/95040
Sergeant (Air Gnr.) Raymond Shepherd, RAF, 929961
Sergeant (Pilot), Gordon Watson, RAF, 1383608
And missing Sgt. William R. Louth RAF 1198324
