Help needed:Fuji S5500 no power

All,

Quick help request. My S5500 has sat unused for a while. It now won’t power up at all. Tried it from mains and newly charged batts.

Any idea’s?

I’ve ordered an S6500fd (refurbished) direct from Fuji to replace my S5600. With it’s manual focus and zoom rings, it should be easier to operate, while offering some minor improvements. It has a 2.5″ screen and 6.something megapixels.

The downside is that my teleconverter won’t fit – I’ll need a step down ring, if I’m to use it. But it might be an excuse to get a better quality teleconverter sometime in the future anyway.

Ahhh, right, I see.

I trust your rechargeables are NiMH AA’s. 2000’s should do, although I use(d) 1700’s and 1800’s without any problems.

Took it apart, still didn’t work. Now here’s the embarassing bit……………..

My colleague tried some different batts and it worked. Now, to salvage some pride I think it’s the charger thats fubar’ed as i tried 2 different lots of batts from the same charger and it still didn’t come alive so that’s my next point of investigation. The batteries I used were fresh from a charge.Hmmmm.:o

Thanks for your suggestions people.

Unfortunately, I had exactly the same thing happen to my S5600.

I took it apart to see why, and the internal battery had rusted, leaked and generally given up the ghost.

In my case, it was down to my own stupidity, I left it in my car, in the boot, for a few days – and I put it, fairly and squarely, down to condensation.

You can open them up – simply remove the screws and the back, although tight, should slide off – straight backwards. In your case the little battery may have simply run down and, if so, can be replaced.

Mine, though, is irrepairable economically, (the holder broke off the mainboard) a replacement camera would only cost £138 or less – so I’ll probably go for that, as an upgrade to a S6500fd would mean that my teleconverter no longer fits, and I would need a step down ring. But I’m considering the options.

It’s been sat at the end of my bed in its leather case. The batts were left in for the duration (a few months) but theres no evidence of battery leakage.

I don’t want to use it as an excuse to get an DSLR……honest!!:)

Ta for the reply.

Hmm…

Where has it been kept when you haven’t been using it? The only thing I can think is that if the camera’s been sat in conditions where the temperature changes from cold to warm a lot and suffered some kind of internal condensation damage it might not be too happy. I reckon the conditions would have to be fairly extreme for damage to occur, though. If it’s been sat at room temperature under normal conditions, I can’t think of any reason why it wouldn’t function. I hope it decides to wake up, though!
