Hi all,
Can anybody help me positively identify these cockpit panels? I picked these up at a fair this morning from a guy that believed them to be from a Tempest. They had originally come from somebody involved in the scrapping of aircraft after the war. Both panels are the same which suggest multiple aircrafts.
Both panels have the remains of most of the original wiring with one having a 6A/1300 20108/43 RPM gauge and and functional unknown switch with red, amber, and red setting.
The other has a 6A/1935 nose tank fuel gauge and a further 6A/1934 fuel gauge.
There was also a 6A/1679 brake gauge in the box
Does anybody have any photographs of these in situ, so I can work out what’s missing? I’m assuming the RPM gauge and switch would come out of one and straight into the other to fill the holes.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all,
does anybody know where I can source either NOS or repro instrument fixing screws? They seem to be of the flat mushroom head variant? I see ther is a big market in repro panels so am guessing they should be fairly easy to get hold of.
I’m trying to keep these panels as original as possible so will be fitting the smaller section with a boost gauge, and the filling in all the gaps on the larger section. I may go down as far as mounting the oil temp and pressure gauges on the larger section of I can, depending on how I mount the panel for display.
The correctly dated gauges don’t seem too much of a problem getting hold of, but the ident lamp switch will be quite difficult!

That will look superb…and quite rare.

Many thanks again for the info. I do have a +24lbs Boost gauge so that’s a shame, although I may just drop it in until I can pick up a +16. I’m thinking the missing fuel gauge would be a dual 28 gallon version.
I think the plan will be to find up the correct gauges, tidy up the wiring and just display as is. I quite like the original patina.

Here’s a clearer pic of the complete starboard panel. Note that it has a +16lbs boost gauge fitted. (Boost Gauge Mk3G, 6A/789.)
All sabre-engined Typhoons and Tempest Vs had these fitted in spite of what you might read and see on the web.
The +24lbs Mk3M, 6A/1581 gauge was fitted to later Spits, Lancs, Halifaxes etc.

The missing gauge above the fuel gauges is the boost gauge

I’ve finally found a pic of the panel in situ…..

That’s great, many thanks for the replies. I have a set of Tempest V main wheels so fits in nicely with my collection.
Any ideas what gauge would have been situated above the fuel gauges? I’m guessing the one missing to the very lower left mounted vertically would have been oil pressure???

Hi Darren
Tempest V, the lamp switch was moved on the tempest II

They are the top half of the starboard instrument panel. They are indeed Tempest. (Probably a later version.)
The switch with the red, amber, and red setting is actually red, amber, green. It is the selector switch for the downward Ident lamps.
