Help please. "Semape" tanks?

I’ve come across a number of references to “Semape” tanks being hit on Wellington aircraft. Has anyone any idea what they were or what their function was?

Can the help come any quicker? I very much doubt it. Sounds right as one reference is to the aircraft continuing to function well after being hit in the Semape tank. And I know self-sealing tanks were fitted after the 18/12/39 debacle.
