Hi
would anyone be able to help with the identification of this gun turret door, I feel that it is in the Fraser Nash range but have searched the different variants, I say this as I have been told that it was originally from a Shorts Stirling bomber, as far as I can make out these were fitted with the FN4, FN5 FN20 and 20A, would anyone know whether the Stirling’s were fitted with any other type of turret?
It appears that this door was a slide to open type going by the yellow instructions on the front side, but there are two other brackets at the top inner side.
The door is also of wooden construction
Any help photos information would be very much appreciated.

Would you know of any other BP turrets with sliding doors? images are difficult to come by showing the rear of these turrets, also would anyone know if the doors on the BP turrets were made from wood a standard or just some or one variant.
One last question there appears to be two aircraft that used the BP (D) type rear turret, that being the Avro Lincoln and Handley Page Halifax B MkV11, was there any other known aircraft that used this type of turret?
Thank you once again

Yes, I agree it looks like it came from a Boulton Paul D. The doors in these were also sliding.

Another image of the same D type turret that pretty much confirms its variant, you can even see the wood panel wooden strengtheners in the image/link below.
But still open to any other opinions

Also i have been told to go towards the BP D turret just started researching this and have come up with this photo from Cosford of a D type, looking a the window at thee rear of the turret i have to say that this is the closest that i have come to identifying its origin.
Would anyone have any images/photos of the rear of the BP D type?

Hi Whitney_Project
Thank you for your reply
Yes your correct i have recently been told this since my post, also they had suggested Boulton Paul, so im looking into this at the moment, apparently it is unusual for a turret door to be made of wood.

Definately not Fraser Nash. I have a handle just like yours from a Boulton Paul Defiant. I would say your door is probably from a Boulton Paul turret.
