Can someone please tell me the correct way to spell the French word that sounds like markee or marquee? They were the guys and girls of the French Resisiatnce who helped the Allied pilots escape through Europe and back to Allied territory. I’d appreciate the correct spelling please as I can’t find it in any of my dictionaries.

According to the Oxford English Reference Dictionary, the spelling is “Maquis”.
