Help please.

My father was in the Polish/Royal Air Force during WW2. Looking through his diary one entry says A.M.V. London 4-1-48 to 16-9-48. Does anyone know what this may have been?
I seem to remember him saying at one time he was in “offices” in Whitehall, could this be something to do with it?
Grateful for any suggestions.
