Hello, can anyone please tell me as to why this B type flying helmet, would have no ear phones adapted, (especially being dated 1941) The maker was FRANK BRYAN ltd London Worcester A.M. Ref 22c/65, I do no some of the earlier B types were used in earlier aircraft that were without radio, but i find it strange that this is dated 1941 where aircraft would have radio, could it possibly of been used in any other way to adapt earphones? I find it intriguing as this particular helmet was owned by a Group Capt C.V. Howes (DFC) of 102 Squadron, who flew Whitleys. im also trying to source any info on this Airman also. any help on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Would explain no earphones I guess.
One other thing there is a stamp inside as is on most b type helmets (AID B.T.J.) what would this stand for, thanks again for any help given.

The condition of the velvet forehead band, the condition of the straps and the condition of the chamois lining tells a different story to the crown of the helmet. I’d say this hasn’t been worn – at least, hardly at all. I have owned dozens of these type of helmets (as have others here) and even those that have been little used have had sign of use – this hasn’t, it seems. Is it not possible that the damage has been caused by ageing/storage?

I think the photo makes it look in great condition but i would say was definitely xc been well used, that’s what makes it a bit of a mystery to myself as to why no earphones fitted,
ill send a photo showing the wear on top of helmet, thanks for your reply’s..

And from its condition, I’d say never worn.
