Help required with location of airman's family

Hi all,
I posted a request up here a month or so ago looking for information or a contact address for the family of LAC Ronnie Peters 539546. To date I have had no replies and wanted to re work the request with a bit more info.
LAC Peters was originally from the Wakefield area. He joined the RAF and completed his training at Adamton House in Scotland.
He was attached to 1 Sqn SAAF and found himself in North Africa in 1941-42.
He was killed in action as a result of a bombing raid on the aerodrome GAZALA (RAID ON 1ST FEB 1942, DIED OF INJURIES 4TH MAY 42).
Now the reason for the post:-
I have a lot of letters from LAC Peters to his family in Wakefield from his time at Adamton House right up to his death. I have the usual letters from his CO to the family, and letters from the hospital staff to his family. There are also two nice photographs of him whilst in Africa.
I bought these at auction not really knowing a lot about them (They were listed as letters from a 1 sqn airman).
I would really love to return them to the family, I certainly can’t sell them on.
In the event that I can’t locate the family could anyone suggest a more suitable home for them.
Suggestions please?
Gerry

Gerry, have a go at www.rootschat.com, lots of people on there who know the finer points about family history research. I found them very helpfull with my own research and you can register for free.

Good luck with your quest.

Two really great ideas there.
Yes I will contact them both to see if I can get in touch that way.
Many thanks, I will place an update here if and when I get a reply.

Gerry

Since our conversation regarding these items, what about trying the local BBC news – either TV or radio. Its the sort of story they would love!

Try BBC local Radio or TV – the East Anglia lot are very good in this part of the world for that sort of thing – try them in the Wakefield area

Thanks Ian,
Yes I did write to the local paper covering the Wakefield area.
Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing whether anything was actually placed in the paper. To date I have not recieved any replies.
I am determined that these go to the family. I’ve just looked through the letters again and it is heartbreaking to read the Christmas card he sent them from the desert just a few weeks before he was killed. Also, typical from a youngster, letters to his mum talking about the girlfriend he had met whilst training in Scotland. These items are too good to be in my house – not suggesting there’s anything wrong with my house (in case the Mrs sees!).
I really hope I can make some progress here.

Have you tried writing to the local papers in the Wakefield area, I’m guessing but they maybe interest in a story like this ?
