I had looked at Philip Arthur Boys-Stones just as Slipstream has. It seems he was starting his National Service in 1952, received a permanent commission in 1954 and retired in 1968.

However, the only UK birth for a P A Boys-Stones was registered in Leicester in the December quarter of 1928. This would surely have made him too young to have flown Catalina’s during the war. It would also have meant that he didn’t start his National Service until he was 24.

Its certainly not that fellow you mention. The Stone i am trying to trace sold the yacht in 1969 and i believe he was on canberras then.Bieng a catalina pilot during the war, this information has come from the gentleman i bought the yacht from as he purchased it from Stone in 1969,he himself worked for the Air Inspection Department back then.

Many thanks Alan.

Hi Alan,

There was a F/O John BOYS-STONES who was a pilot with 431 (GR) Flt and 69 Sqn operating out of Malta during 1941. He was KIA 07 Mar 41 so probably not who you are interested in but perhaps his service in the Middle East/Med has been confused with your man.

Best Regards
