I’m hoping that someone reading this forum may be able to help positively identify a “radio box” for me? It’s fitted high up in the main equipment bay on XF382 (F6A Hunter), and as I’m no electronics expert – it’s identity eludes me. Whilst other adjacent control boxes are clearly labelled, which helps me identify which does what – this one has nothing apart from the painted on ID “30” (which quite possibly means it was fitted to another Brawdy Hunter tail code 30) at some point.
I’ve attached a camera phone piccy which hopefully will allow someone in the know to ID it? The view is looking upwards and facing the port side of this equipment bay… with the mystery component shown arrowed.
From what I can see – there appears to be only one visible connection – which looks more like an ariel than power supply??? (yellow plug)

Just got to figure out where any other connections to it may be hidden – had a good feel around it as best as I could but not easy to find anything…
On the Backplate and Mounting Tray?

Hi Les,
yep,not the easiest of places to stick a camera – my tiny camera phone only just managed to capture it – but then I wasn’t planning on taking photos of that area anyway 😀
Thanks for the info – DME is the most likely seeing as I can identify pretty much every other it of kit up there whilst banging my head around the confines of the equipment bay (no-one ever forgets working on Hunters thanks to the cramped / inadequate access…… :diablo: )

Not the best of images. However I took a fairly extensive set of pix of that particular Hunter at MAM during its refurbishment a couple back. Having pretty much been all over it during said refurb (didn’t work on it, just grunted as the other two did all the work  ). Anyway, benefitted from the wisdom of the team, so I reckon it’s possibly the DME tranciever. This feeds the DME indicator located on the RH side of the pilots main panel. Gives Distance and Bearings to a known beacon. The box on the left of it is the IFF T/R.

Isn’t that the remote control for the DVD player?
Alright, alright, I’ll get my coat………………
