Help wanted with parts for DH88 Comet

I have been asked to put a post to see if anyone can help with some bits we need for Black Magic at Derby. We have engines and props but need spinners and backplates which are ex DH Heron. Plus it has been suggested that Heron engine cowlings could be modified to suit so again if anyone knows of any it would be a great help.
Thanks

Thanks for all the help on these spinners, can anyone help with the part numbers for the back and front spinner plates and the spinners themselves both for the Heron and Proctor. We have the Queen 30 and Queen II manuals but they arent listed in either.

Thanks

Hi Rob,

The Comet is in the first building, but you go through the gates and ask at the first white cabin on the right and someone will show you round.

Same but different…?

Ken,
Other than part number, can you see any difference between the Proctor and the Heron spinners….?

Devonair at Little Rissington is a veritable treasure trove of Dove and Heron bits…they might be able to help…

We havent any specific days planned yet but you can call in any time as its open as long as the airfield is, and someone will show you round… and point out the donations box as well of course. Martin is always pleased to talk about the project and the kettle is always on.
The airfield is closed after today till the new year though in case any were planning a trip up.

Thanks for all the help so far.

As regards a timescale, the fuselage is done as is all the tail feathers and loads of metal parts including engine bearers and undercarriage assemblies. We have made a start on cutting the wood for the wing spars and will be starting to jig them up in the next few weeks. We have set ourselves a target of late 2014 which is the 80th anniversary of the race. I cant guarantee it flying by then but if things go to plan it will look like a complete aeroplane.

If you go on the web site there is a link to one of the volunteers ‘flicker’ pages where he keeps posting updated pictures. or directly the link is..

Thanks for the help, have dropped a line to Newark so will see what they say before I try Barry

Ken

Your email has been received and it was being discussed when I was there this morning – you will no doubt receive a formal response in due course.

I understand that they may be able to offer some assistance, however some cowling spares were moved on to another group a while ago. When I left some ‘fevered searching’ was under way! 😉

Saunders Aircraft of Manitoba Canada would have had a copious supply of the components you require when they converted about 15 deH 114s to ST-27s. It was back in the 1970 but is possible some components may survive. Wonder if any of our Canadian readers may be able to help.

Just an idea……….

The DH Drover from Southend had been fitted with Heron props and spinners. I think it is still with Parkhouse Aviation but they may not be prepared to rob her of the bits.

It might be worth contacting the curator at Newark Air Museum – several years ago they had a quantity of Heron spares shipped back from the West Indies; not sure what remains in ‘stock’.

His direct number, email etc can be found on this page!
