Hey guys,
Spent a nice few hours at Birmingham Airport today in the pleasant weather! Managed to get a pic of an An12 after my last attempt 6yrs ago failed due to my camera jamming, so i’m a happy chappy today.
However, there was a plane that was flying high up and circling, a friend confirmed it to be a CL215 Water bomber, however I couldn’t quite understand why that would circle high over BHX? Anyway, i’ve included a poor quality pic and wondered if anyone could give me a reg for it?

And one I took with my phone after I finished work at Cranfield airport on sunday..

The one I got was Meridian Avia and it departed during the afternoon. RubyStar are a different company and they do operate An12’s. The AN12 you saw was probably going in to Birmingham as BHX seems to be getting daily/nightly An12 movements at the moment bringing in car parts.
I saw a RubyStar An12 on FR24 go into BHX a few weeks back.

I am located just south of Cambridge. Last night, at around midnight as I was about to turn out the lights, I heard a very noisy, high flying turboprop. According to trusty Flightradar24, it was an An12 belonging to an outfit called Rubystar, it was at FL300, and beginning to decend. It was heading northwest at this time. I wonder if your pic is that same aircraft, and that it was heading to BHX all along. On checking the displayed route on FR24, it showed it coming onto the radar overhead Klagenfurt Austria, but of course, that may not have been its place of departure. I had not heard such a noisy, high flying turboprop before. Maybe this is my mystery solved:)

Why are the water bombers over this side of the pond?..are they carrying water over because of the hose-pipe ban?

Those two water bombers are very rare on this side of the pond, or even on the other side of the pond for that matter. They are from Newfoundland Canada.

Keith, ironically after posting this I looked at BHX Flight Guide and they mentioned them flying over. You are correct, there was 2! I have never managed to catch a CL215 before, let alone 2 in 5mins!!
They belong to Buffalo Airways. Never saw those 2 in Ice Pilots tv series before.

EGTC. I think this is one of two CL-215’s that arrived at Prestwick on 22nd. They are C-FAYN and C-FAYU !
There is a thread about them on UKAR, will try to provide a link ?????
