I still think it is Finningley on one of the old dispersals near the village with Finningley church in the background. As far as i know TG566 ended up on the dump at Cosford and i can’t see that there is any churches near to the airfield. The church near Shawbury has a different steeple and the Finningley one looks a pretty good match to the one in the piccy to me.

Does your contact say where the pic was taken and what the ‘incident’ was. Presumably this image shows the a/c in the process of being dismantled after the event but why, I can see no obvious sighns of crash damage other than the possibility it had belly landed.

Dear All,
The Editor of 202 Sqn’s “Mucky Duck” opines that:-
The aircraft in the picture is (was) Hastings C Met Mk 1 TG 566.
The incident happened on 20 September 1962. It was not a meterological reconnaisance flight, but rather a transport one. There were no passengers on board at the time; the aircraft was transiting to pick them up.
I have had a long email from him with all the details (if anybody wants them). He should have been flying in that a/c but was Duty Aircrew for the day. He is fairly certain that the location is Aldergrove.
