Can you guys help please? I’m thinking of getting a few like minded spotters into a car for a Seacat one day special to Troon from Belfast, and taking in a day’s spotting at Prestwick. Trouble is, while I’ve seen those great shots many of you have taken there, and I’ve a general knowledge of the PIK layout, I’ve no idea just where to park the car for the various runway-in-use options.
Can any of you assist with accurate instructions on parking, obstacles to watch out for, best day to go (it can be any day)?
I know it’s like Shannon – not much in the way of quantity, but usually high on quality.
Once arrangements are in place it would also be nice to perhaps meet up with some of you if you’re free and interested in spending a little time at PIK.
Many thanks in advance

Thanks for the info above. Three of us will be making the trip to PIK on Thursday 7th October (i.e. next Thu). If any of you are free to join us for a while, please let me know and we’ll make arrangements to meet up. Our Seacat gets into Troon (hopefully) at 10.00, and we’ll be returning back to Belfast again at 19.30.
Looking forward to it already …..
Just don’t be tempted into entering the Ground Services Maintenance Area next to Greer Aviation, it can be tempting but it’s a restricted area.

Ren,
Many thanks for the detailed info – just exactly what I was after. Is there any recent history of interference/questionning at all from the local plod while spotting?
Not that I know of ? Unless you find yourself in a restricted area which is hard but not impossible, especially if you take a walk round the cargo sheds and associated areas. But I haven’t given you directions to that so don’t worry.
PIK is quite spotter friendly and there’s even a website where guys who work there in the likes ATC and ground management pop little nuggets of info about unusual visitors and stopovers. Unfortunately you have to be invited to view it by the site owner, but I can post anything interesting on here for the day of your visit.
Here’s another site with useful info and links www.egpk.com

Here are a couple of pics from the mound…
First of all a runway 13 departure then a 31 landing then something on the taxiway to 31 as it passes the mound.
