Another item found in my collection which I thought may be of interest. I also have a rather large list of all the attendees (Founders), all of whom served in the RAF from 1st April 1918. The 1920 list of display items is also quite fascinating.

‘Sqaudron Leader Johnston and his BRISTOLS…’
You’d think the poor chap would have strapped them down or had them removed or summat…
you forgot the rest…

Appropiate that the Red Arrows are first on the list, with a certain R. Hanna noted as leader… 😀
I wonder how many other pilots on that list are still actively flying, Ray may be the only one…
Yes the area around the RAFM has certainley changed in the past 20 years, let alone the past 35 odd…

That’s interesting look about the Spit- listed as being from the ‘Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight’- in 1968? Further proof (there is more) that the BBMF was at least party known as the BBMF, before it officially became the BBMF in 1973!
Hadn’t picked up on that – good point given the current trend towards renaming it.
Don’t suppose anyone on the forum has pictures of the day from relatives, veterans etc.? must have been a fairly exclusive crowd.

Yes, driving up to the museum is a bizarre experience- you can’t help but feel envious of the students at the college/uni/whatever it is over the road, ‘in a just popping over the road during my lunchbreak’ train of thought….. 🙂

I went to the museum yesterday. Driving down Graham Park Way it struck me what an unlikely location the site now appears for national aviation museum. It seems to be stranded between a housing estate and a railway and being slowly engulfed by an industrial estate. This was obviously not the case when the concept forthe museum was first conceived on this site but my, how times have changed.
I also had an overpowering desire to demolish the 1970’s structures and expose the original WW1 hangars concealed behind them.
