I noticed the gripes about Hendon’s lighting in the Defiant post, so here’s some more shots from my St Athan days. The BF.109E-3 outside in 1975.

RE: Hendon’s 109 outside.
Hi Guys, I’ve got the He.111, Me.110,FW-190 and a few others outside, I’ll get them scanned in as and when I get the time. I’ve posted the JU-88 and 87 before. I can’t remember if I posted the CR-42, but I’ll post that soon. The 109 was done before I took over. I believe the team leader on that project was Sqn Ldr Schofield, who was the Officer in charge before I took over responsibility for the collection.

RE: Hendon’s 109 outside.
Teriffic shots there, thanks! How different they look outside, eh? I’ve said this often here before, but I remember well in the early 80’s the sight and sound of the Me410 and twin seater FW 190 running their engines early in the mornings on airshow days at St Athan! Where are they now? At Cosford and Hendon, lifeless, like ‘Black 6’, too. ‘Shame’ doesn’t even begin to cover it really, does it?
Are there any more shots of Hendon residents pre-internment out there?

Cheers Kieth, good pictures 🙂 I can’t help feeling she looks better there than she does now, having been glossed over before going on display at the RAFM.I know the camouflage pattern here is slighlty inaccurate (no yellow cowlings, wavey demarkation lines on the wing leading edges etc) but atleast it doesn’t look like an Airfix!
Is this one of those machines you worked on yourself Kieth? If so,well done mate, she looks terrific.
