At the risk of being shot down in flames, can anyone confirm or deny that a Halifax wreck is buried on the edge of RAF Northolt?
The reason I ask is that I occasionally have to work there and on one of my visits I was chatting to one of the chaps based there and he was of the opinion that a large pile at one end of the airfield contained the mortal remains of a Halifax which had suffered a landing accident.
The story went (don’t they all) that it was bulldozed over.
As there is a lot of building work going on there at the moment he was keen to “borrow” a JCB and go digging!
Any Halifax experts available to say whether there is anything in this or just another tall tale?

I wasn’t aware that so many aircraft were lost in Oxfordshire in so short a period. It appears to be mainly Blenheims, Battles, and Oxfords with a few Hampdens/Herefords thrown in plus one Magister. I’m also surprised that there were not a few Hart/Hind trainers lost around Kidlington as they were based here with the EFTS (Can’t remember which one, No 3 I think) and subsequent schools.

Phaah… ! And they say finding lost wrecks is difficult, we’ve only been on this job barely 10 minutes and already found two… 😉
This time next week we will all be millionares… 😎
As for accident reports you might start looking here:

There are already two suitably situated at either end of the disused runway-sorry, I’ll get my coat.

Hmmm… Sorry can’t help to validate the story, but here’s a map where do I put the ‘X’… 😉
