With the Heron G-AORG being at Coventry with Atlantique Engineering having a Major Check does any one know how well it is going or not.
We are now in the middle of August and I would think the Group who owns it would like to get it in the air.
There are still a number of Air Shows the Aircraft might be able to be seen at but only if it is finished its check in time.
It has been at Coventry just before the Lancaster departed and went in the Hangar after that so some of us would hope to see it at some of the shows but if things are not going well it is a bit dissapointing.

Whilst I was there earlier this month she was looking a little more complete and re-spraying of various parts of the airframe was taking place. I can’t imagine it will be long before it emerges now.

just afew more piccies from today of G-AORG, she now has flaps, ailerons and a very very nice shiny new u/c and u/cbays. looks like only 2 guys working on her…with lots of new expletives I’ve never heard before:o mainly questioning the plane and designers parentage:D

Thanks Rambo, sounds promising then!
Don’t want to be a doubting thomas on this subject, but the plane looks a LONG way from completion unless it has priority in the work schedule.

quick pic of G-AORG taken today as I walked past classic flight’s hanger, apologies for the quality but it was on a camera phone. A brief chat with one of the engineer’s reveals that the major work has been mainly completed and it’s just rebuilding her. That’s one job I really don’t envy them:eek:

I think its fair to say there arn’t many more bits that could actually be removed from her (that was when I last saw her a couple of weeks ago). I guess one of the guys there might be able to post some pictures. As for the condition of the airframe and its repair, thats a matter for the engineering company and the owners. If they wish to make a comment I’m sure they will. 🙂

I think most if not all of the rumours are true. I work on the airport although not as part of the Atlantic group but they’re pretty open guys and let me and mates have a quick nose now and again. The main problem seems to have been major structural corrosion. each time I’ve popped my head through the door she’s either had a wing, all engine’s are missing although 2 are next to her and the enterior looks pretty gutted.

As it spent the majority of its time in Jersey exposed to the salt laden winds straight from the Atlantic, I am not in the least surprised that it is suffering from corrosion.

As I no longer frequent the airfield, I’d like to know too! What with the Lancaster restoration being excellently covered here, the progress of the Heron has been deathly quiet.
Incidentally, is the check being funded privately by its owner? Would be a shame to see it become an economic write-off *if* the rumour has any merit.

I had heard RUMOURS, and I emphasise RUMOURS, that all was not well with it when it started to come apart. I think the ravages of time and corrosion have caused some fairly extensive issues.
Only a RUMOUR on the grapevine mind you.
