Car driver wrecks house – twice
A man whose living room was demolished by an out-of-control car has seen the same thing happen again 12 months later – with the same driver at the wheel.
Gordon White returned to his house in Liversedge, West Yorkshire, on Tuesday night with an uncanny sense of deja-vu.
On 28 July 2003, driver Eric Williams ploughed into the lounge after blacking out at the wheel. On Tuesday he did it again – in a different car.
The 60-year-old said he felt awful and that he wished it had been his house.
Mr White, 62, had just refurbished the front room of his house after the previous accident when bad luck struck again.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire Service confirmed crews had attended the incidents on Tuesday and in 2003, but had no records to show whether it was the same driver.
However, Mr Williams, of Brighouse, Huddersfield, confirmed he had been behind the wheel on both occasions and was very upset.
He said: “At the moment I can’t put into words how I’m feeling. I wish it had been my house.
“All I can remember is going down the hill and indicating to turn left. Then I don’t remember anything until I got out of the car.
“I’ve got a pain all down one side but I didn’t want to stay in hospital. I just wanted to be on my own.”
