Hethrow Success!- (Well, sort of) a very exciting day

Hello again. First i would like to say thanks to the people who told me where to go the other evening when I asked about where I could go if the planes were on RWY 09. Lucky that I did, otherwise it would have been a waste of a day as they were on 09L all day. After a bit of trouble trying to get a bus to the BA head office (even the people in the bus infromation area outside the terminal disn’t know), we found that the bus H30 would take us there. From here it was just a matter of walking out onto the main road and walking in the general direction of the landing traffic until we come across the approach lights.

We arrived at the approach lights at around 1:30 and atayed there for the next 4 and a half hours (until we had seen concorde). I saw a number of aircraft that were especially different to me, although I am not quite sure how ‘different’ they are to other Heathrow spotters. These aircraft would be: EP-IAG Iran Air 747-286B, 9K-AOA Kuwait Airways 777-269ER, B-16102 EVA Air Cargo MD-11F, A6-SMM UAE 747 SP, F-ODVI Royal Jordanian A310-304, HZ-HM6 Saudi Arabian L1011 Tristar and A40-KF Gulf Air (50th anniversary cs).

I was also very pleased to see my first A340-600 (Virgin Atlantic, G-VOGE) and the highlight HAD to be Concorde. At exactly 5:30pm, after a slightly longer wait than usual waiting for the next plane, there she came creeping out from behind the trees. 20 seconds later she came thundering over, causing parked car alarms to go off and nearly deafening me. I have to see that again before it goes out of service. Another exciting part of the day was seeing a Bmi A321 (G-MIDL) have to go-around after a Royal Air Maroc 737 took too long on the runway.

Anyway, at about 6 we made our way back to the BA head office and waited a short while for the bus to the terminal and then made our way to the underground station. Just as I was about to put my ticket through the machine…………………………………..silence. The lights had gone out and the escalators stopped moving, a power cut. The staff were told to evacuate the staion and we had to wait outside for about half an hour. Then when the lights came back on we made our way down tothe platform again and sat on the absolutely crowded train waiting to leave. About 5 minutes later, the driver comes on the tannoy ‘sorry ladies and gentleman, just because the train doors are open does not mean it will be going anywhere, the whole rail network has had a major power cut and I do not know when we will be leaving. It could be 20 minutes, 2 hours, 5 hours or tomorrow. If I were you, find another way home’

Great, me and my cousin. both 15 years of age, stuck at Heathrow when we were supposed to be 70 miles away on the other side of london. We spoke to a police man and he couldn’t have been any less helpful ‘sorry but as you’re under 16 you are your parents responsibilty so they will have to pick you up’. What? It is a 2 hour car journey from where I live, it is already 8 o’clock and it is raining outside. After numerous phone calls to my parents they said if it was possible for us to get a bus home. We went to the bus infromation and booked our tickets on a jetlink bus to Stansted airport, where my dad had to pick us up from 2 hours later.

What an eventful day, but here areall the registrations any way:

Glad you enjoyed the day, shame about the events that occurred later on!

Came across G-EUPV in that list, the only aircraft I’ve flown on out of the ones you saw.

Yeah I should have got his number, but in all the rushing around and the huge crowds of people that had been arriving off of the planes I sort of didn’t think about it. Ohh, by looking on airliners.net it only seems as if the Bmi ERJ’s only fly out of Manchester and other smaller airports like Leeds/Bradford and Edinburgh. That’s a shame, I was hoping to see some at Heathrow, especially the one in Star Alliance cs, that looks brilliant.

Now that was an eventful day!!
And so many aircraft…
Shame on the copper wannabe pilot..
He/she should remember their duty of care to minors..
Basically anyone under 16 approaching a policemen, security officer, train station staff etc.. and requesting help has to recieve it.The officer concerned was duty bound to ensure your safety..
The only reason he didn’t would have been because he was either to bl**ding lazy or had you stereotyped as a “troublesome teenager”.
Its a shame you didn’t get his number so as to complain.

My misses was on the ‘A40-LH Gulf Air/ A340-300’ from Abu Dhabi. Its one of two A340’s which Gulf-Air have leased from SIA and its very clean inside.
And as I write this, she is getting ready on the a/c to depart LHR at 19.30.

BMi A330’s only operate out of MAN. Im not sure that BMi use the 737 any more, I think they are in in service with BMibaby.

Does anyone know when I can see Bmi 737’s and A330’s at Heathrow. I have literally seen the whole fleet of A320’s, A321’s and Fokker 100’s but not a single 737 or A330 (or aren’t the A330’s delivered yet?). Also, as of yet I have not seen a Bmi ERJ, or don’t they use Heathrow. Another airline I have been hoping to see is Air Mauritius, does anyone know what time they fly in? Thanks

Yes I think that there’s about 205. I think I was quite lucky as I have seen the Pokemon 747 the past 2 times I have been up to Heathrow. I also liked the two JAL 747’s in a row.

wannabe pilot.

Just think, you’re not going to forget yesterday are you? A memorable day for the right and wrong reasons. Appalling behaviour from the Police Officer. No doubt he was busy and of course he is right, you are not his responsibility, but he could have been a bit more helpful one would have thought. After all, the Police say if you are in trouble always ask a Policeman.

Onto happier topics. Seems like you got quite a haul there, the Pokemon 747 being a real treat as well as the Jat 737. How many registrations there? Around 200? You’ll have to try to join those of us meeting up on the 18th of September, there’s always safety in numbers.

Glad the spotting part of the day went well for you both.

Regards,

kev35
