HEXALINE FINISH ON PANELS

Whilst looking through some panel drawings, I came across a reference to a finish called Black Hexaline, and was hoping that some one may know what it is, and if there is a modern equivalent.
My guess would be that it is some kind of textured paint finish.

That sounds like a fun solvent to mess about with. Found another ref that mentioned mixing it with linseed oil.

Hexalin and Hexaline are names used for cyclohexanol. One of the uses is a solvent for alkyd resins used in synthetic paint.

Isn’t that related to creosote?
