Hi from a newb to the forum

Hi everyone.

I have just joined the forum having recently subscribed to Airlinerworld.

My name is Steve and I live about 7 miles South of Chester/Hawarden, so not too much stuff is to be seen at low level overhead although I do occasionally see stuff coming out of Manchester, such as the World MD11 on Saturday.

Mostly watch OTT stuff spotting wise. When I do make it to an airport I try to snap a few pics as well.

Im off to France in September. Im having trouble finding details of Charteroux, Voisin/Coloummiers and Lyon St Exupery, so if you have any details please let me know.

Happy Spotting

Steve

Hi there Steve..welcome to the forum..it’s good to see you’re using your real name instead of one of those silly pseudonyms

Ohhhh I forgot about using a pseudo, think I will change my I.D. to ‘Northern Monkey FDX MD11’.

🙂

Thanks for all the great info regarding Charteroux and Lyon, its much appriciated. I will knock up a trip report and post it with some pics.

Welcome aboard sir,
If you mean about where to spot etc… Chatoureux is just off the A20(E9) motorway(with a handy MacDonalds next door)at the junction of the N151 you really can’t miss the place very close to the motorway, lots of stored A300’s DC10’s etc.. when i last passed, you can drive around the perimeter of the field and get quite close to the parked stuff, there is also a small dirt track that runs up towards the end of the runway. A place well worth a visit if you are near it.
Lyon there are a few places at Lyon for spotting, probably best is to the rear of the Cargo ramp towards the Air France Regional maintenance hangar,(an old Air Tansat Tristar was stored here last time i visited) you can park up around here (i’ve never had any problems) and from the fence you have great ramp views and if on 36’s, very close taxiing aircraft. There is also a great dirt mound area adjacent to the end of R/W 18R from the D517 take the D517E toward the airport and follow your nose, a wee bit hard to find the access road at first.
Also, you can see what is in the various cul de sacs by accessing the maintenance area off the D517E you will see a stored Caravelle, and on the south side of the terminal, in the cargo area you can see stuff (not too clever for shooting though)
I believe there is also a veiwing area in the terminal… but, i’ve never been in the terminal.
Hope thats of some use.
James: i believe he means dot spotting (flyovers)

OTT is ‘Over The Top’. With Chester not being the busiest of places I look for overflights for a bit of spotting. With WAL (Walasey) being just 10 nm North of me I see plenty of interesting stuff that I tie up with ACARS, VHF and ADS-B.

Sometimes I get to see arrivals/ departures from Liverpool and occasional departures from Manchester (Monty/ Nokin departures).

Steve ,

CHR is a former US Airforce WII base. They are now mostly involved in storage and maintenance.
Spotting is rather easy even from the mean road and one can see DC10’s , 747’s A300’s etc.
