Hinkler Ibis

Does anyone know why G-AAIS was scrapped at Lee-on-Solent in 1959? It had been discovered and rescued some six years earlier and in between times it had been displayed, albeit engineless, as an historical artefact. Furthermore I understand that the Australians were keen to have it. As it was, it was scrapped and the Australians had to construct a full size replica – to display in the Hinkler Museum at Bundaberg – as a substitute for the original.
