Hiring a plane near Much Wenlock (Shropshire)

Hello all, I’m coming from France spend a few vacation days in Much Wenlock, Shropshire (where the Olympics where created I learnt, hehe isn’t that strange in France we tought they where created in France).

Would someone suggest a friendly flying club or school where I could hire an airplane (after checkout) for a few hours over England ? That’s what the european PPL is for, isn’t it ?

On Google I can see airfield at Wolverhampton (halfpenny green), Shifnal (or Albrigton), shawbury and other small places, thanks for any suggestions.

The Flight Centre[/url] (who I fly with) have the largest fleet with all-diesel Warriors and a diesel DA40. .

I cannot see the prices for the PA28s for hire on the website ? Also, would they require a full year membership for occasionnal visitors ?

I’ll pay a visit anyway. Arriving at East Mids on next tuesday.

Halfpenny Green is your nearest airfield for GA, Benoit. About 15 miles. Halfpenny Green Flying Club are a smaller club and have a basic 152 I think for hire. The Flight Centre (who I fly with) have the largest fleet with all-diesel Warriors and a diesel DA40. The Warriors are very easy to fly, with some having leather and a refurbished panel with twin GNS430s. Their rates are somewhat higher so may be off-putting. They are a very active school.

Welshpool and Shobdon are twice as far away at about 30 miles each.

Have you tried searching the Where to Fly Guide on the Today’s Pilot website? Note that there are several county boundaries in this area so you may have to search Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire and a few others. PM me if you need a link to some other flying club search engines – our friends at the magazine seem to have missed out a few people.

Benoit,

Halfpenny Green is a possibility, Shawbury is military.

Also worth considering are Shobdon or Welshpool, which have active flying clubs and are close to the Welsh borders, offering some nice flying scenery.

There’s also a gliding club on the Long Mynd which still occasionally uses bungey launches when the wind is favourable.
